For Immediate Release:
Palm Beach, FL – More than 60 people attended the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic for Palm Beach Island Cats on July 19 at Nick & Johnnie’s. It was a record number for the event.
Only 10 kittens were born on the island this summer during “kitten season,” said Leslie Moss, executive director. She credited the field staff, volunteers and local residents for maintaining a watchful eye. (The kittens are from just three litters and were taken to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League where they will be socialized for adoption. In years past, there were dozens and dozens of kittens born each “kitten season.” The mother cats were spayed and microchipped, and became members of Palm Beach Island Cats.)
Moss also cited letters of support from the Civic Association, Code Enforcement, the Town Manager and local veterinarians.
“How are we gaining the community’s trust? We are being transparent and honest and going about our mission with a focused plan, a hard-working board, a hands-on field team and an incredible volunteer group,” said Moss. “Put simply, it takes a team to make it all happen!”
The 550 feral cats are fed and watered daily, and provided medical care. All the cats are microchipped and part of the nationwide trend of Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return. PBIC’s main fundraiser is The Cat’s Meow Ball, Jan. 20, 2016 at The Sailfish Club.
Attending: Paula Harris, Amir Gladstone, George Palladino, Linda Rossbach, Linda Hornsby, Rob Scarborough, Cheryl Love, Sona Reese, Grady Smith, Robin and Michael Sexton, Linda Siris, Paul Noble, Elizabeth Giles, Don and Coco Schefmeyer, Tom and Lisa Ferguson, Skira Watson, Carrie Wood and Judith -Wecker.
PBIC’s next event is Oct. 16 for National Feral Cat Day, Leopard Lounge at the Chesterfield Hotel, 6-8 pm.
