Well-Attended Annual Palm Beach Island Cats’ Volunteer Appreciation Picnic
Highlights the Heart of the Organization
Palm Beach, FL – Close to 70 people attended the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic for Palm Beach Island Cats on July 17 at Nick & Johnnie’s. It was a record number for the event.
Supporters and Board Members of Palm Beach Island Cats came out to show their appreciation to the team of Volunteers whose dedication to the organization’s mission of caring for the community cats (which operates 365 days a year) is essential for this local group’s success.
Paul Bates, Outreach Coordinator for Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League’s Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate & Release program, attended and remarked on the progress of Palm Beach Island Cats. “What many people in the local community do not realize is that Palm Beach Island Cats is recognized as operating one of the top feral cat Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release programs in the United States.”
Leslie Moss, Executive Director of Palm Beach Island Cats shared some interesting statistics to highlight the grassroots organization’s progress. Since 2010, over 744 feral cats have been trapped on the island with 405 now neutered. All the cats are microchipped as part of the nationwide trend of Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return. This has effectively reduced the impact of “kitten season” which takes place each Spring.
Ms. Moss went on to explain, “Palm Beach Island Cats receives no government funding and operates 100% on donations. These donated funds are utilized to pay for the day-to-day food, medical care, field crew, equipment and other operating expenses for this animal –friendly charity. There currently are no reserves so we operate on an annual basis.”
She requested everyone mark their calendars for Thursday, August 4th for an upcoming Sip and Shop event hosted by Sequin Worth Avenue. The Palm Beach Island Cats organization’s two annual fundraisers permitted by the Town of Palm Beach are the Cat’s Meow Ball scheduled to take place on January 25, 2017 at The Sailfish Club and the CatWalk art event planned for March.
